History, as it was purveyed to us, was not so much a narrative, not even the detached observation of the rise and fall of fortunes and cultures. It was the litany of loss, attended by the inevitable sympathy for the vanquished side. The past was always the underdog, and we sensed it was only right to be on its side against the bully future. We were left with the impression that our own grip was loosening on some essential pediment as one empire after another was swallowed up, and the centuries collapsed into our own. . Patricia Hampl
About This Quote

I strongly believe that our history is not what we think it is. It is actually a series of stories and facts carefully and even maliciously constructed to suit the agenda of those in power. The problem is that we cannot control our own history. We cannot tell which side we should be on as the decisions that were made seem to be at odds with our own morals.

We live in a world where if we don’t like the way the present is going, we should simply change it. However, this effort to change history should not be done without looking at other histories and cultures. There is also a strong belief that we should only do things that will make us feel proud of ourselves and not make other people feel bad about themselves.
